WEEKLY SUMMARY. Shipping business has been brisk during the week, md the harbour has received an addition of eleven Foreign vessels sinee -List- week'n summary. 'J here bave'also been several departures foreign, and a brisk coasting bn smews. The wind ou (Saturday, the 21st, blew a perfect gale from the northward, accompanied by severe squalls of rain, and several vessels were in danger of injury from ibs severity. Tlie wind continued throughout the day from the same quarter, but was fortunately attended with very little injury to the vessels in harbour. Those on the weather lide of the wharf lost no time iv moving round to the west side, and the only injuries we are aware of are those Btt«taiue<i by the cutters Agnes aud Teaser. The former had her bulwarks and coveringboard stove; and the latter was swamped, and had some of her cargo of timber washed out by the o ence of the waves. The cutter Peter, Cracroft drited from the North Shore to the westward of the wharf, a distance of a mile aud a half. The London

ship Rub Hoy and several other vessels dragged their anchors owing to the severity of the gale encountered; and the American pumps used in the attempt* to raise the sunken hulk Bella Marina were washed away, together with portions of her spars and upper work*. The first airirais foreign were the cattle bnvquei Itlauil City and Kivte Waters, from GHadstone, Port Cm tie, Queensland, on the 2lst instant. On the same day the P., N.Z., and A.R M. Co. 'a k.b. Egm<>nt arrived from Sydney via the South with general cargo,' and the barque Benjamin Heape from Newcastle, via Sydney, with a cargo of coals on account of her new owners, Messrs. J. S. Macfarlane and Co. On the 23rd the P., N;Z , and A.JR.M. Co.'s steamer Claud Hamilton arrived from Sydney, with the May English mail from England, a full general cargo, and passengers. The next arrivals were on the 26th iustant, when we received an addition of five foieigu vessels. The first to make the hat hour were the coal barques Free Trader and Prince Regent, from Newcastle, N.S. W, with full cargoes. The s.B. Beautiful Star, Captain Morwicic, followed, eight days out from Sydney, with a general cargo. This vessel has undergone a thorough overhaul duriug her stay in Sydney, and the captain has received a very flattering testimonial fiom the underwriters for his meritorious services under circumstances of great peril. Shortly afterwards, the long expected London ship Monarch, Captain Macey, made the harbour, to the surprise and delight of numbers who had friends on board, and of the consignees of her Urge cargo. Intelligence of her having put into Bio Janeiro leaky had been received by the mail steamer, and she was consequently not expected to make these waters for some time to come. A narrative of the adventurous passage of this vessel has already appealed in these columns. The schooner Zillah, Captain Wyatt, followed the IMonarch, with a oargo of nuiz9, from the South Sea?. The departures foreign have been the P., N.Z., and A. 11. M. Co.'s s.s. Egmont, for Melbourne, via the South ; the brigantiue Vistula, Captain Patotf, for Sydney ; the cutter Isabella, for Ovalau, Fiji Islands ; and the schooner Neva, for Jtorotonga and the South Sea Islands— all with general cargoes. The arrivals and departures coastwise have been numerous. The p.s. Tasmanian Maid has made two trip 3 to Wangarei with cargo, and returned with passengers and produce. The N.Z.S.N. Oo.'s s.s. Wellington arrived on the 21st from the Southern ports, with passengers and cargo, and returned on the 26th with Auckland cargo. We regret to have to record the loss of the Auckland cutter Annie Laurie, which foundered on her way to Napier, from this port, during the heavy weather experienced on the 15th instant. The vessel sprung a leak during ft severe gale, and in less than two hours afterwards went down. The master and ciew worked the pumps to the last moment, and had not sufficient time left them to save a parcel of jewellery which formed part of her cargo for Napier. The crew stood by the vessel with the dingy when she settled down, and then made their way, with the greatest difficulty, to "Whaugamata. The sea at the time is described as very mountainous, and little hope was entertained of the dmgy's reaching shore in safety. They were kindly taken on to Taurauga in the cutler Bslla, and arrived here from thence on the 25th in the schooner Tauranga. The barque Island City, Captain Wolffe, cleared at the Customs on the 25th, for Queensland, in ballast, and will sail to-day. This fine barque, recently purchased for the cattle trade between Queensland and this port, has been laid ou as a regular trader, in conjunction with the barques Kate Waters and Lombard, on account of* Mr. Johnson, the Commissariat contractor. The brig Bifca has been beached off Cuatom-houser street during the week, iv order to have her coppeexamined, and sundry repairs made, before leaving for Sydney with cargo and passengers.
