EXTRAORDINARY SHOOTING CASE.

A VKBY strange affair has occurred at the Tamaki, * son of Mr. Styak having been repeatedly shot at by » man unknown to him. Mr. John George Styak made a statement about the matter yesterday at the Police-office, in the following terms : — "On the night of the 22nd (Sunday), in crossing over the field towards home from Mr. Harris's farm (adjoining Mr. Styak's farm), I was waylaid by a man and fired at, the bullet pasting close by my head. On the next day, about one o'clock, in going away from the hous», with my brother, for the purpose of ■hooting, we noticed a man who had been apparently watching the house, and who walked parallel with tv for some distance. About half an hour after, I separated from my brother. I then oame upon the man behind a clump of high tea-tree, fie presented a pistol and fired, the ball passing under my left arm, and through the game bag. 1 fired in return, and I saw blood trickling down the man's cheek, fie turned half round, and appeared as if reloading, when I fired a second time, bringing his left arm down. He thereupon drew a knife, from kis spring pistol, , and attacked me, ■tabbing me through the left breast of my coat, and piercing the powder flask. I took the butt of my gun to oontiuue the defence, when the man decamped, and I lost eight of him in the bush." No intelligence has yet been obtained of the perpetrator of this strange attack, who, we believe, was quite unknown to Mr. Styak, who is quite unable to suggest any motive for such conduct.
