GAME.

To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cboss. Sib —I trust during the present week you will draw attention, in your widely circulated paper, to the Act passed in the last session of the General Assembly relative to the alterations in + Tie season for shooting game. It formerly commenced on the Ist April, but has now been alt ered to the Ist May ; and very wisely so, as vou'ng pheasants are even now frequently seen not larger than quails. Every true sportsman wil^vait the time, and I hope they will take every .means in their power of preventing obhers from infringing the law ; and if they will only act as I am determined to donamely," to bring every offender before the magistrates— their regularity will soon be put a stop to. I haxe been told that some persons are unprincipled enough "to say that they are determined to shoot on and after Ist April ; and state that if they are brought up they will plead ignorance of the law and the alteration of i the time. This will be no excuse ; but I think his Honor the Superintendent (who, by the ' way, is a thorough sportsman himself) ought to publish the Act. a-* circulate it as widely as look out for these would-be sportsmen, who make a business ot killing everything in the shape of a pheasant, cock or hen, old or young, and selling them to to the dealers and other* in town who are as bad if they purchase them out ot the proper season, as those who shoot them. I*m™? of them will be made an " April-fool of, if they try it.- Yours, &c, . Qld CoCK , Auckland, March 26, 1860.
