ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. AUCKLAND AT NELSON, FROM SYDNEY.
The Panama, New Zealand, and Australian Royal Mail Company's s.s. Auckland, Captain Randall, loft Sydney on the 16th at noon, bringing European telegraphic news to February 13th. The English mail w*s expected to arrive in Sydney on Monday, 19th. The mails for Nelson and Northern ports would be brought on by the Prince Alfred, which vessel was 'detained in Sydney after date for that purpose, and the Southern portion by Company's steamer Tararua, from Melbourne. The Auckland encountered strong adverse winds from the time of her leaving Sydney to within a few hours of the New Zealand coast, with heavy head sea. Passed Cape Farewell on the 22nd, at 3.30 p.m.; rounded the spit at 5.30 p.m., and arrived at the anchorage off Boulder Bank at 1 10.30 p.m. By the above report it will be seen that the steamer's detention this month was caused by her leaving Sydney one day later than usual, aud the continuation of head winds throughout the greater part of the passage. In the list of passengers we notice the name of Mr. Lawaon, the sub-manager of the company, who, we understand, is proceeding to their central office at Wellington, to make the necesBary anangements preparatory to the commencement of the Panama mail service in June next, and also for the future to represent the company permanently at that port. — Nelson Colonist, March 23.
