POLICE COURT.

To th« Editor of the Daily Southebn Cjioss. Sib, — to-day the Bench was occupied by Thomas Henderson, Esq., M.G.A., and J. H. Home. Esq. 1 confess to feeling some surprise when J observed that "the chair" was occupied by Mr. Home. Surely Mr. Henderson, an old and respected merchant of this city, ought to preside in preference to a new mau, who has no justification or qualification to assume to himself the right to preside over his senior brother justice ? I do trust that for the future the senior justices will .assert their proper rights, and assume the position the law gives them. — I am, &c, Proprikty. [We entirely agree with our correspondent in his remarks ; and may state that owing to the indecorous assumption of precedence by the gentlemau in question, on all occasions in the absence of Captain jßeckham, to say nothing of the manner in which the dignity of the Beueh is upheld, several old and respected Magistrates decline giving their attendance. We trust the senior Magistrate present each day will in future preside, and that the Police Court will be more largely attended by Justices of the Peace than has recently been the case. Captain Beokham's duties are now so onerous and various, that it would be a great relief to him, and a guarantee of an intelligent administration of justice, if a full Bench sat each day.— Ed. D.S.C.]
