LIVE FENCES.

To the Editor of the Daily Southern Ckoss. Sir, — I am surprised in reading your paper, and seeing the various opinions on the subject of live fences, so little mention of the kangaz*oo acacia ; while laurel, holly, and arbor vitae, are recommended ; the first injurious to cattle, the other two of almost as tardy and uncertain growth as the hawthorn. Allow me, after eight years' experience, to offer my opinion in favour of the acacia, for impenetrability, durability, and easy culture, not to mention its being highly ornamental, for gardens and shrubberies. We have our farm sub-divided into paddocks by the acacias, which are admired at all seasons, especially in bloom when their golden flowers perfume the air. In two seasons they form an impenetrable fence, without much of the annoyance the furze gives in spreading. The fences may be kept in beautiful order by being trimmed in the proper season. Excuse me troubling you on a subject so important to the farmer. — I have, &c, February 3, 1866. A Farmer's Wife.
