NOTICES TO CORRESPONDENTS.

" Alexandra."— The boundary of the Raglan district in Waikato is the Waikato river up to Ngaruawahia, *nd thence to Taupo lake, the Horotiu river. All on the eastern side of these rivers is in the Franklyn district ; all on the west, in Kaglan. The delta of the Waikato is in Raglan. " DESiDKBATuar."— Your letter of the 9th inst. to hand. With regard to the letter of our Russell correspondent complained of, the reply may be safely left where Practical " placed it At the same time, facts attest the truth of what our correspondent has written about the coal-field, namely, that in Wangarei, where the difficulties are greater to create a coal export, it has been practically accomplished by private enterprise, wherea* at the Bay of Islands, from a variety of causes, the provincial money has produced nothing equivalent to the outlay up to the present time. We don't say this is the fault of the engineer*. On the contrary, we know that latterly the work was under the management of an engineer who understands what he is doing ; but no one can pretend to say that the earlier management was of that character. It is a pity that our correspondent should have descended to petty personalities in his letter. We don't believe that our Russell correspondent meant to offend any one. It is unfortunately but too true that " the Government stroke" prevails in this province. "Desideratum " thinks that the immigrants employed on the roads have earned their money fairly and have been well superintended. That may be the case, and we hope it is ; but if so, it would have saved the province many thousand pounds if the same system had been carried out elsewhere. 11 Fair Play, No. 2," is acknowledged. The letter on the jury system will keep for a few days. " A Co i;ntry Sxttlsr" could really persuade no sensible person into adopting the course, with regard to the compensation claims, which he suggests. We must decline giving his letter insertion in our columns for another reason, which the writer will readily guess. Letters by the following will appear in early issues .* — "A Farmer's Wife," "H.Edwards," "An Old Soldier," and "Fair Play." Several other letters have been received, and will be attended to.
