CRICKET. SINGLE Y. MARRIED.
An interesting match between tingle and married elevens came off on Thursday, on the Albert Barrack Squire, in the pretence of a goodly number of spectators. The single gentlemen were the first at the wickets, and loit two men for a score of 8. The game then, commenced in earnest with Mr, .Winter, bowled by Lankham. The latter delivered a few loose balls at first, but was soou put upon hit mettle, and improved as the game advanced. Mr. Winter began with two threes and five twos, and did not stop until lie had been caught out by Major Greaves, after adding 17 tingles to the number, making in all 33 ruus. Mr. Yatet, the most successful batsman of the two elevens, was" the next to take the willow, to the bowling of Branston. Somo well-timed and steady hitting was now relumed. Mr. Yates, during hit innings,' (cored two fours and seven threes, which were tuppltmented with 14 doubles and 13 tingles, making a total of 70 rum. Lieutenant Howard tben took the bat, and, although playing freely and exhibiting a good defence, fell a victim to tbe bowling of Adamt before appending anything to tbe tcore. Major Baker tucceeded him, and obtained three three*, six twot, and 14 tingles. Captain Clarke scored 13, out of xvhich there were two threei. The remaining four wickets fell for a total of 28 runt, making the score of tbe tingle gentlemen for the lit inningt 199. Although the total pretented a somewhat formidable appearance, the married eleven took the wickets with every confidence. Mr. Gatlaud was the first in, to the bowhng of Winter, and scored a dnok-egg — always a bad omen at the commencement. CapFarraday succeeded him, and scored 14— namely, one three, four twos, and three singles. Mr. Mumford was next at the wickets, and scored 18 to the bowling of Campbell, and wat told ouh with a leg before wicket. Then came a period of ill-luck, the remaining eigbt wickets falling to a score of 17. Mr. . Lambert, M.T., scored six out of that number, and Mr. Lankham five. The married had now played their first innings to a score of 55, leaviug their antagonists victors by 144. Tbe second innings of the married was then proceeded with, Lieutenant Howard being sent to the ball to try his slows. They had their effect; tbe first two wickets falling for a score of three. Mr. Mumford then took tha bat and scored 23, obtained at follow:— One five, oue four, two twos, and 13 singles. The Key. Mr. Bayloy was the next in turn at the wickett, but bit place was supplied by Mr. Grutt, who wat caught out after scoring four. The remaining seven wickets fell for 15 runs, making a total of 52. This left the single eleven victors by 92 runs much to the astonishment of the gentlemen on tbe opposite side. There were few incidents couuected with the game worthy of being chronicled, the siugla eleven haviup everything their own way throughout the game, as the following score will fcestifv :—: —
