His name is not known — " Colonist," November 10 The schooner Rifleman arrivod from Hokitika at seven o'clock on Tuesday ovening, having left on AVednesday, November 1— " Lyttelton Times," November 9. Arrival op the Star op the Sooth —This vessel arrived yesterday at five o'clock pm , from AVollington. By her wo havo received later news from Hokitika She left AVellington at twelve o'clock on Tuesday. Shortly nfter coming to an anchor one of her quarter boats get unhooked from the davits , it fell on the top of one of the watermen's boats and stove her planking, and tunic directly, and those in charge fortunatoly escaped unhurt — Ibid French Men-of-AVar.— Quito a sensation was created in Port Elizabeth on Sunday last, by tho appearance of two large French men-of-war in tho harbour. On the landing of the port-boat it was discovered that they wore tho steam corvette Primauguet, 8 guns, and tho steam frigate Semiramis; 34 guns, for Mauritius The former is tho vossol that was lately on shore in Simon's Bay, and tun latter is conveying her to Mauritius to undergo repairs. They called in for tho purpose of coaling. Since, they havo been hero tho place U quite enlivened by the number of French oflicors and men who are moving about.
