EXTENSION OF THE FLAGSTAFF WHARF.

Our readers will be glad to learn that the Provincial Government have advertised for tenders for such an extension to the Flagstaff Wharf, North Shore, as will enable the steamer to lie alongside at low water. The inconvenienco, danger, and delay at present undergone by having, at low water, to soramble down slimy steps, and be taken to the steamer in » small boat, will thus be avoided. ' The length of the present wharf is 138 feet, and to this it is proposed to add 80— malting the total length of the wharf, when extended, 213 foot. The CO feet of the extension at the shore end will be 6 feet in width, and will terminate with a return cud or platform of 20 feet square. Under this will bo a landing-stage, whioh will be about lovol with the steamer's deoit at low water, and will be reached from the upper platform by a strong flight of stops. The carrying out of the specihoiitious will ensure the wharf md landing stages being o£ sufficient strength to withstand for a long time the great tear and wear inevitably caused by the culling of a steamer. The piles will be either of totara, puriri, or tea-tree, not less than vine inches dinmetcr ab the smallest ond. The girders to support the joists of the landing stage are to bo of totara, and it is provided that the whole eroction shall be bound in tho strongest manner. Tenders ara to be received at the Engiueer-in-Chief's office till Tuesday, the 28th instant, and the contractor is to be bound to have tho work completed by the Ist of January, ISO 6.
