'Leahy- in'tho ohair, v the Chairman read the; niinutes 'of > the last meeting, having reference "to, the 'Secretary being empowoiod to publish a portioriof^the"fundnme'ntal rules of the>boioty, so' that the lately~arrived immigrants may lmowthat thoro exists in^Auckland, 1 since tlio 28th September, 18641 an-fliberniaif Benevolent Sooiely, whioh has lealised the benevolent antioipa-' tions of its founders and ' honorary members ; for many of its ordinary aud humble members have onuse to be grateful, , having "rocoivedj when needed, the benefit of the 3rd clause, which says, '/That the objeofc of this sooioty shall bo the support of the sick, and burial of the dead, of its membeis, aud of their wives ; and for affording medical attendance and medioinei to members and their families." Clause 9. "That thissooiety shall be open to persons of any age, not exceeding 40 year?, orcreed, being natives of Ireland, sous of such, or persons' married to Irishwomen. Persons desirous of admission must be proposed ab a meeting of tho society, by two members, in writing, signed by iiioh members, stating the namo and rcVidcnco of the candidate ; and ho shall be balloted for at the meetiug after the night of proposition." Clanbo 7. " That any member knowiugly proposing an unfit person for admission shall be fined Twenty Shillings for tho first offeuce ; and for tho socond shall bo 1 oxpolled. And no person ■hall be eligible to bo proposed as a member of this society who in of unsound health aud habits." Tho lules and regulations of tho Hibernian Benevolont Society are printed, a copy of which each member is put in possession of, aud aio legally regiSjS tored by tho Hon. tho Attorney-General. - At tho aforesaid meeting, tho Secretary was also instructed, in the uamo of the society, to thank tho honorary members for their unflinching pecuniary support, and solicit their further aid aud inlluenco in stimulating those who have inhaled the spirit of nationality and generosity, the birthright of tlio sons of Erin, to eniol thomsojvos as members of tho Hibernian Benevolent Socioty, and lend their aid in fanning that ilamo so conspicuous in his Excellency Governor T. Goro Brownes timo, tho patron of the society, at which timo, aud at ono of their anniTersaries, 110 members, aud sovcral of thoir friends, gat down to a sumptuous dinner, at the society's assembly rooms, Governor Browne Hotel ,• his Excellency Governor T. G. Browne in the chair, who expiessod, at a late hour, leaving, the gratification he felt and enjoyed. At a late hour, may be seen, at the approaching time of douch-a dtirras, the sons of the leolc. shamrock, and thistle, singinj, " That they should ever compose, a safeguard and shelter to the English fair rose " Tho Secretary is again instructed to tender tlio society's senso of grateful acknowledgment to the following honorary members for boons bestowed on the society: — John Williamson, Esq., to whom the society owes a debt of gratitude ; he having been one of its principal founders and supporters— its first patron, which ho resigned in favour of his Excellency Governor T. G. Browne ; and on that geutletnan leavingtho colony, resumed it again, at the unanimous requost and desire of the society.
