The "Welliugtou papeis received by the 'Rangatira give extracts fiom the Wanganui Chronicle. The correspondent at the Fiout of the last-named journal says that Goueral Cameion was hourly expected at Patea. It does not seem likely that these expectations will be realised. J'he Chronicle of the 27th ultimo says : — Wo leain that, besides the officer aud private mortally wounded, Major Yon Tompsky lost another man who was found to be missing on their letuin, and who has not yet made his appearance. The probability is that bom* wounded he fell into the hands of the enemy, or was left dead at the clearing where the fight took place. The following with respect to the leturn of the troops is from the same journal :—: — Yesterday a considerable number of the troops arrived fiom the front, having marched from Alexanders Farm C.unp They weie expected a week aj,»o, but have been detained by the b.i I weather ; pai L of the march was performed dining tho ni<;ut, to in-even t, we suppose, the possibility of nn attack by the natives. Of the the 70th llegiineut 2C5 of .ill lanks auived ; of these 125 left to day in the ' Ahuriii' for Taranaki, under the command of Captiiu Hill, Lieutenant ITuskissou, aud Ensign Young and Tiaveis ; and 140 iem mi in town under chai£*e of Captain Backhouse, Lieutenants Leake, Gueiscm, and Tylden. Ensign Leonaul, and Assistant-Surgeon ITession. Of the 50th (Queen's Own), 13S rank and file anived, under the command of Colonel Hamley. Of the GSth, L.1. , 24G rank au-1 file came into town under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Moranfc, the o her officers in ch.nge being Captains Grace, Clement, Casement, aud Seymour j Lieutenants Clarkson, Stewait, Mnishall, Bolden ; ISnsijjn Palmer, aud Staff-Assistant-Su'geon Grace.
