SHOOTING A COW. case was adjourned fiom Tlnu'sday, and was brought up for lehenririfj, when Emily Malcolm, the wife of the witness who gave evidence yesterday, deposed to having been at the Kawau with her husband. Saw young Mi . Osmond and two other men. I saw them lauding on the same spot whoie the cows had been grazing three days before. The cow was a red and white shorfchoined one. She was on the eve of calving. As soon as they landed, within two or tin ec minutes, I heaid the report o£ a gun on the same spot whete I saw thorn. Theic were tluce reports of guns, one after the other. After T heard the guns I -watched and saw young Osmond, Cuff, and Mtiflin, with another man in the boat named Dunn, who lived in a house where the cow was killed. Ihere had been no meat bi ought up in the boat Some little time afterwards the boat again went off. There woio live m the boat. I could not swear how many there weie. I was standing about 70 or 80 yards from the boat, and could distinguish the voices. Joseph Osmond remained on the beach The cattle commenced to bellow, which was their custom when any beast had been killed. I -went over with my husband and discovered the cow, which would be about seven days afterwards, and found the skin and a heifer calf buiied— in another place the feet and head. I swear they were portions of my cow. I did nofc examine the skin to bee whethei it had been shot. Tho value of the cow would be about £25. Thomas Watson deposed : I am a waterman. Osmond, Dunn, and other two pai ties went out in the boat, at about seven o'clock in the evening. We went over to tho bush where there was a hut. I saw no meat. Osmond went about twenty yards nj> on tlie beach and was speaking to the busbman. I don't know what he was> doing there. They all returned about half an hour afterwards to the boat. No meat was brought bafck in tlie boat. I saw no meat in Mr. Osmond's possession. 1 only went once over in the boat that day. There was half a beast in the boat, but nob when T was in it. I was engaged at my work at the time tho meat was brought to the shore. I don't recollect seeing Mr. Osmond at the boat. I won't swear to it. Mr. Osmond's son did not seive any of the meat out from the boat. His father did not assist in serving the meat out. T believe Mr. Osmond saw tho halt "beast after it had been brought oub of the boat, which would be about 200 yards off. At this point of the proceeding? Mr. Brooltfield, who appeared for the plaintiff, offered to meet them by their paying £15, with costs, which was agreed to by the defendant.
