OTAGO. (FROM 'THE "DAIUY TIMES," OCTOBER 23.) An uuaccountnble dulness continues to hang ove our markets, and oven the uear approach of the Christmas holidays docs not induce that activity which is usual at this season, and transactions are ooufinod to the daily requiioments of tho trade. Adelaide) flour continues in limited demand at £16 10s. to £17, according to biand. Tiisimnian oats, 7s. Gd. Bran, 2s. In spirits business is very limited, except a small parcel of MarteU's pale brandy at lit., we hour of no transactions worthy of note. Sugar excites moie attention, later advices from Melbourne intimating a strong speculative movement having set in there. In tea our market is at a standstill. Pi oviaions also continue neglected, except good cheese, which, being scarce, brings readily Is. 2d.

OTAGO LIVE STOCK REPORT. fDriTer, Maclean, nnd Co '* Report for week onillng Dec 18 ] The market during the past week has beeu quieter than \vn have known it for several mouths past, in consequence of very few lots of good stock being at present on haud for sale. There is still a very fair demand for prune fat cattle, and good strong wellbred stores at payable rates, but inferior weak cattle are almost unsaleable at any price.

Pat CaTTI/K. — Thero has been 140 head yarded during the week of good and medium quality— ss bullocks and cows, ex 'Oregon,' from Gipps Land, which we sold at from £17 to £24, averaging £21 10s. ; and 8>") head, ex ' Empress Eugenie," fiom same place, sold at from £14 10s to £26 10s., or equal to about GSt. per 100 lbs

Fat SHRi:r. — There lias only been 450 yarded (medium quality), which were all taken by the trade at fair rates. Wo quote best muttou Sd. to 9d. per lb. ; medium do , 7d. to Bd.

BoRfeES. — A* furnished by Messis. Milner and Lear month : — The trade itill continues to be somewhat flat for every description of stock aniving. The demand continues to run upon light harness hoi scs find p-iekers, whilst heavy draught horses seem to bo entirely neglected, owing solely to the pio^ent low rates of cartage between heie and the mining districts.

INVERCARGILL. The following is from the InvtrcargiU Time* of the 21st : — " For tho last week there has been little activity in commercial circles. Trade with tlio Lake District has been very slack. The principal porf on of the business which lms really been transacted been in forwarding supplies to stations. Already the effects of too heavy shipments of all descriptions of goods aie beginning to bo felt ; few of the large stores in tho tow n bnt would be the better of a clearing order, and as thU cannot be expected before the termination of the holiday season during and after Christmas and the New Year, any further imports, for some little time at least, can only make matters woisr. We do not like to predict gloomily, but recollecting the commercial difficulties which some years ago resulted in Victoi ia, in consequence of tho market being too heavily glutted with impmts, it would bo only judicious on the )>arfc of importers to nee a better outlet for those already in .stock before they think of further supplies. Prices remain without any mateiial alteration. Cartage still rules very low to the Lakes — from £12 to £15 per ton, according to the description of goods, and advantages of conveyance."
