HEAD MONEY. To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cross.

ql R| —By your issue of to clay I ■see that the Government of New South Wales have thought it neeessaiy to offer a reward of £4,000 for the arrest of ceitain notorious bushiangers. How is it that with the unlimited means at our disposal wo do not offer similar inducements for the capture and conviction of tb« heads of the Maori rebellion, and the perpetrators of the savage murders committed upon our unoffending and peaceful settlers. A promium of £1,000 for W. Thompson and a few others would be some encouragement to our soldiers, and would doubtless excite tho cupidity of the rebels themselves, and thus help to pub un end to the war. —Yours, &c., Pax.

Capsizing op the Ketch Sab ah Dent.— By the 'Concord,' from Porb Stephens, which ai rived yesterday, we learn the following particular lesprcting the forenamed vessel :— The * Sarah Dent' left Newcastle on the 17th instant for Port Stephens and, when between the North Head and Cabbngetteo Island a squall struck her, and she instantly went down, with all hands. This was observed by Chinese fishermen, who reported the circumstance. The ketch had previously reefed all sail, and afterwards made sail, so as to be more secure in beating for the port. The wind being very strong fiom the westward, and the ketch in ballast, the calamity was inevitable. One of her hatches had drifted ashore, but none of the crew saved, nor have any of the bodies been recovered. One of the r seamen on board the 'Concord' caught hold of her topmast, the heel of which was about six feet awash ; but i* still being entangled in the rigging, he was compiled, to relinquish his hold. The 'Sarah Den'tf-had 'only'f becu lately purchased by Mr. Mills. who r we are nformed, vu also lost.— Sydney 'Morning Sordid, ,L, L Oot. 31.
