We have Melbourne papers to the Sth init. The Age repot ts as follows: — The improvement in the itnpoit mai kefc continues ; a better enquiry has been experienced for most goods, and a fair amount of business has been done, and sightly enhanced rates lealised for itaples hitherto neglected. A connider.ible parcel of light-weight candles changed hands to day at 84d. per packet. Corn sacks have been disposed of at full waiket rates. Toas have met with a good trade demand ; half chests have been sold at 2s. 2£d. to 2a. 3d. The sugar niaiket is firmer, the auction sale to-day establishing an advance. The low prices 1 tiling have nttiactcd considei.ible attention, as it is generally supposed the aiticle has now seen its lowest. Ono or two failures are repotted to-day ; the estates, however, are said to be small, and do not excite much attention. Mebsis. ]?iusor and Cohen sold to-day, at the Melbourne and Hobson's Bay Railway, tho damaged portion of the c.tigo of sugars cv ' Hannah Nicholson,' at very full juices, and for nett ensh. The snmc fiun afterwards sold at their rooms, the cargo of tho "faureaii, 1 from Mauritius, consisting of 4,211 bags of sugar at from £25 for medium counters, to £30 for fine ditto. The attendance was large, and the bidding 1 ! were spirited. The prices snow a slight advance on last sales. Messrs. Greig and Murray sold to-day, at their rooms, canvas {vaiiou? uumbera), 124 d. to 13Jd. per yard ; twine, Bd. to Is. Id. per lb. ; cotton waste, sd. to S}d. per lb. ; bran bags (all faults), 6s Gd. to Ss 3d. per dozen ; and large quantities of ironmongery, &c, at fair rates.
