Sir, — Bef erring to my former letter to yonr address under date 7th instant, I have now the honor to forward herewith eight copies of a draft bill, which I purpose submitting for the consideration of the Provincial Council at an early date after the expiration of the piesent adjournment. " The Bill in question being intended to supersede the " Town Boards' Act, 1862," I have lo requert that you will furnish each member of the City Board with a copy, and allow one copy to lie on the table for the general information of the members. I have also to request that you -will inform the Board that the Government will ciirefully consider any suggestions which the Board or any of its members may think proper to ofter, and, if expedient, they will be embodied in the Bill while in committee should it reach that stage.— l have, &c, .Robert Graham, Superintendent. FUNDS. The Ch vibmax said, since tlic last meeting lie had waited upon Captain Daldy, provincial treasurer, and received from him on behalf of the board cheques for the main sewer and the ordinary works of the Board, being portions of the sum voted by the provincial council. The sums had been deposited in the bank to the credit of the accounts on which they were paid. ATTDITOBS' REPOKT. The Auditors' report wn3 brought lip, and read as follows :—: — AUCKLAND CITY BOARD OP WOEKS. Abstract of Beceipts and Expenditure from Aug. 7th (inclusive) to Dec. 31st, 1862. Dr. 1802. To amount advanced by Provincial Treasurer £384 0 0 Dec. 31, To amount of advance from Bank of New Zealand ... 386 311 £770~3 11 1862. Cr. Cleansing streets £69 19 0 Repairing streets 367 9 5 Officers' salaries, Assessors, and Assessment statistics 278 13 0 Office expenditure 64 2 C £770 3 11 January 31st, 1863.— Having been appointed by the City Board of Works a committee to audit the accounts up to December 31st (inclusive), 1862, we certify that we have examined the same, and the vouchers thereof, and find them perfectly correct. John Joseph Moore, Herbert Ashton. the main sewer. Mr. Stewart, in referring to the city main sewer, said the work was being proceeded with under his supervision. He could not form any idea whether the cost would exceed the contract sum. Labour was high and rising, as there was a scarcity of masons. Next week he believed he woiild bo able to get ten men more. Mr. Finjay expressed his satisfaction at the way the work was being done. Last weelc he was not satisfied with it, but this morning ho was well pleased. He would, however, suggest that the street sho\Ud be finished as the sewer was covered in. Mr. Stewart said that could not be done in accordance with the contract. A special vote would have to be given for it. After some further conversation the matter dropped. ACCOUNTS. The accounts were passed and cheques made out for the amounts.. The meeting then adjourned.
