GENTLEMEN,— I bog to offer myself as a candidate for the office of Supeiintendent of the Province of Auckland, now vacant by the resignation of John Williamson, Esq. li. doing so thus eaily, I wish to avoid the more formal piocest. of waiting for a leqinsition. being aware that requisitions, on such occasions, aie simply expressions of party feeling, which in my case I wish to avoid. Belonging to no party in the Province, I am under no personal engagement to Beive any ; and I do not now wish to lay myself under any party obligations My sole desiie in coming foi w aid at this juncture, is to serve the Piovince to the best of my ability; and unless elected to the office to which I aspire by a very general record of public feeling in my favour, I have no wish to be returned, well knowing that unless I am placed in a strong position, my means of usefulness will be greatly impaired. 1 shall have anothei opportunity of expressing my ■wows as to the duties attached to the office — meanwhile, I beg to solicit the support of all those who have confidence in my character and ability for the ti ust thus sought, pledging myself if my election should be secured to promote as f.ir as possible the prosperity of the piovince.
