TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2.

The Chief Justice took his seat on the bench today at ten. o'clock.

FELONY. Joseph Nash, 22 ; Michael Helmdey, 19 ; and James Biliuorih, 31 ; were indicted for stealing a watch and seal, eye-glass, pocket compass, pair of boots and pair of trousers, the property of John Smyth, at Waitakere, on the 19th November last ; also with stealing at the same time and place a gold watch and chain, value 425, the property of Henry Smyth. Nash and Helinsley pleaded guilty; JDilworth traversed the indictment, and he was put on his trial for stealing the gold watch. After hearing evidence, the jury returned a veidicfc of guilty. His Honeh, after reading a written statement by Helm&ley, passed sentence on the three prisoner. They weie each sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment with haid labour. Nash is a deserter from the 70th legiment; and Helmsley and Dilwoith, aie deserters fiom the 65th legimeut.

SENTENCE ON CEOWE. His Honor tlien sentenced the prisoner Crowe to two years' imprisonment, with hard labour. In parsing judgment the Chief Justice warned the prisoner that if again brought before the snpieme court in New Zealand he would be sentenced to a long term of penal servitude The legal natuie of the prisoner's defence pioved that he was well experienced in the ciiinmal laws of the country. There coidd be no doubt as to his previous habits of life, and whatever his pievious experience might have been it was certain that he had lately showed himself skilful 111 robbing hi& neighbours.

LARCENY. dtarles Cochrane, and laivrencc Otmrod, two soldieis of the Csth Regiment, were charged with stealing a gold watch and appendages, from the house of Patrick McAllister, Freeman's Bay, on the 16th November last. The watch, &c, were pioduced and identified. They were discharged on the juiy returning a veidict of not guilty.

HOUSE KOBBERY. John Gledliill, John Deiehn, and John Morgan were chaiged with euteung the dwelling-house of Joseph Dunsmoie, West Queen -street, on the 9th November last, and stealing therefrom £1 2s. 6d. in money, and a quantityjof wearing apparel, looking glass, and tape line After hearing evidence, the jury returned aveidict of "guilty" against GledhiU and Devehn ; and acquitted Morgan. The latter was discharged, and Grledhill and Develin were each sentenced to nine months' linpnsoment with hard labour. The Court adjourned to one o'clock next day.
