GOVERNMENT LAND SALE.

Pursuant to proclamation, a public land sale was held at the Odd Fellows' Hall, yesterday, at noon. There was a fair att'-ndance, but for much of the land there was no oTer, and for the remainder, except where scrip was given in payment, the bidding was very languid. We learn that, on this occasion, the quantity of scri] tendered in payment has been unusually la. ge. Of country lands, 27 lots in Mongawai were put up, langing in size from 41 to 107 acres. Of these only three were sold, at the upset price in each case. The amount lv-dlised was £116 12s. 6d. Nine country lo f s in Karaka ware also put up, but they elicited no offer. The lemainder of the country land was in Pukekohe — two lots of 249 and 137 acres respectively. Both were sold at the upset price — realizing in all £193. Of the village allotments, for the lots in Mahurangi — 29 in number — there was no offer. In Papakura village, of the 16 lots put up, all found a purchaser but one. For these the competition wis spirited, and the advance on the upset price considerable. The Litter amounted on the 15 lots to £31 155., while the sale grossed £79 10s. We beliqve, however, that the whole, or neaily so, were scrip payments. Of the Drury lots, out of 25 offered, only 16 were quitted, principally at the upset price or a little over. One lot, however, put up at £1 17s 6d. realized £5 55.; one at £1 16*. 10d., £4 ; and one at £1 18s. Id., £9 ss. The upset value of the 16 lots amounted to £26 14s. od., and the proceeds to £42 15s The Pura Pura lots sold remarkably well — the competition being bri«k, but principally, if not altogether, amongst the scrip-holders. The whole — 23 in number — found buyers at large advances. Lot 22, offered at £1 18s 9d., was knocked down at £15 10s.; No. 23, put up <\t £1 18s 7d , realized £10 10s ; and No. 51, the upset price of which was £4 4s 4d., was eventually sold at £22. The advance, in the gross, was from £65 9s. 2d. to £210. Seventeen lots in Remuera were offered ; they varied in size from about 5 to about 20 acres, and were put up at £10 per acre. 14 were sold, of which 7 were quitted at the upset value, and the remainder at an unimportant advance. The gross upset price of the 14 lots Has £1246 6s. 3d. and the amount realized £1431 Is. 3d. The sale realized in all £2072 18s. 9d. .
