BOMBAY. The subscriptions to the Patriotic Fund, in the Presidency of Bombay, alone, in the middle of February amounted to upwards of a Uc of ripoes (£10,000).; whilst of the above sum. morp than eighty thousand rupees, (£8 000) had been paid inco the Bank of Bombay. On the occasion of tho embarkation of thf Tenth Hussars, in February, for the sjat of war, the ( Hombay Telegraph' offors the following tribute to th air worth : " The men of the Hussar*— not excepting the corps d' elite,— the Guards— possess more g-iuial knowledge and intelligence than we have ever met with in any other regiment. They will not right the worse for being educated. The Tenth were tha crack corps of Poona. Collectively, they had the best theatrical company, they had the prettiest theatre, and were the be*t cricketers, they excelled at all manly games and exercises, and it is to be hoped will equal tho Light Cavalry of the Crimea in gallantry."

CALCUTTA. A Calcutta paper states—" It is now reported that the long talked of annexation of Ourie with the British territoiies will take place shortly, and that a pension of half the amount now Realised from the Guide territories will be granted to the King. It is added that the Governor-General will leave nothing unsettled before his departure from India." We learn th.it a commodious place of worship is to be erected at Calcutta for the accommodation of the Roman Catholics in the fort, at a co3t of 20,000 rupees. This concession t ey owe to the liberality of Lord Dalhousie. It is said that si bill for the abolition of the practice of marrying a pleurality of wiv»s amongst the natives of India, is in course of preparation by a Government law officer, and will shortly bo submitted to the Legis1 tJi-n T'/Min/.l!

MADRAS. We subjoin a brief description of the nature of the contributions to the Madras Exhibition, which has now been some time opened:— _ The productions of the Indian looms are of unrivalled richness, and the display of perns and jewellery of the most splendid character. The .viruples of vegetable products are, however, the -most important, xhev comprise Aarious cotton wools of excellent qua.itr, and well cleaned. Some sent by Messrs Fischer & Co., of Salem, was remarkable for its cleanliness and pure white colour There wai likewise a kind ticketed as " Red Cotton." but really of a deep fawn hue. Fibrous substances, applicable to various purposes of weaving and paper making, presented themselves in great variety and abundance, a remark which applies still more forcibly to the specimens of Indian woods collected. Most of the known trees of India-and numbers wholly unknown to people in general-were thus represented. Drugs, minerals, hemps, tows, &c, albO held a corrspicuous place in this highly interesting section of the exhibition The tow mad- from the pine -apple fibre attracted attention by its fine quality and whiten ss Some pretty light rope manufactured ot it was added to the collection.
