GENTLEMEN, — There are some amongst^ yourselves who are aware of how anxiously I haye 1 ,, united with others to seek and bring out some, candidate, who would be likely to command the confidence of the Citizens, and be efficient also to represent their interests in the present specially' important session of our Parliament. As, however, difficulties have been experienced in procuring such a candidate as would be generally acceptable, and as several have privately urged upon me the request to which you have publicly appended your names, L can only say that I gratefully accept your offer of support at the approaching Election, and that should I be chosen to the nonourablc position of one of your Representatives in the Genei'al Assembly, it shall be my earnest effort to fulfil, as far as in me lies, the responsible duties which belong to that position.
