ONE of the consequences arising from the recent cheap land regulations is an extraordinary increased requirement for certain and speedy communication with the capital and the numerous Stations formed and fowning on the Coast and Banks of the Rivers. To secure this important advantage to the settlers, merchants, producers and consumers, in fact to the community of this Province, it is proposed to commence this undertaking with a Steam Boat of about 100 tons builder's measurement, and 30 horse power, for the purpose of trading to the posts most in need, viz., the Tamaki, Howick, North Shore, Wairoa, Mahurangi, Matakana, and Kawau, calling at such places as may offer sufficient inducement; and it is confidently anticipated that in a short period the Company might be in a position to extend their operations to Coromandel, the Barrier, Wangarei, and the Bay of Islands. Five Pound Shares have been recommended, because it is considered desirable to offer as many persons as possible an opportunity of interesting themselves in the undertaking, thereby making it the general interest of all to offer facilities and assistance to carry out the object of the Company, that object being to effect a general benefit to the Province more than individual profit. It is thought unnecessary to dwell on the great extension of general traffic wherever proper facilities of intercourse by Steam have been afforded, it may however be briefly stated that within the proposed limits the extent of traffic will be sufficient to make a fair return for the capital employed, and, when in full operation, will offer important advantages to the public in the conveyance of passengers, produce, and merchandize. It is proposed to apply to the General Assembly to pass a Bill, during the present session, to limit the liability of the Shareholders to the amount of their respective -shares. Application for shares may be made in the subjoined form, to the Provisional Committee, through the Secretary and the Solicitor of the Company. On the Provisional Committee receiving applications for 500 shares, they will convene a meeting, for the purpose of appointing Directors to undertake the management of the Company, who shall have the appointment of a Manager.

CAUTION To Purchasers of Land .at Wangarei.

XTTHEKEA.S a Notice has appeared from the * * Surveyor-General in the 'Gazette' of the 6th June instant, offering for Sale a Block of Land at Ruakaka, near Wangarei : and whereas the Undersigned has been credibly informed that cer tain persons named Duncan MacKenzie and MacKay have paid, or are about to pay money to the Government, for certain portions of lan 3, situatei at Wangarei, named "Paupau Whenua" and "Mangapai," he hereby Cautions the said Duncan MacKenzie and MacKay, and all other persons whom it may concern, that the tract of land, within which the said portions of land are situated, is not the property of the Government, but of the Undersigned and of about thirty native families, who hold under the Undersigned as tenants for life, without the power of alienation. It is not, therefore, in the power of the Government to give a valid title to the land in question, which was purchased by the Undersigned before the sovereignty of New Zealand was acquired by the Crown of England. His title has never, to his knowledge, been disputed, except by the Government ; and he has had the opinion of the first jurist of the age that it is perfectly valid in laio. The Undersigned has invited the Government to try the validity of this title in the Supreme Court of the colony, or to submit to the arbitration of the Judge the question, what sum of money he may be equitably entitled to on surrendering the land to the Government. The Government has -rejected both these offers, preferring, it would appear/to pay large sums of public money to natives who had previously divested themselves of all title to the land, and who could not, therefore, convey to -the Government a title which they had ceased to posess, or to the sons of 'those natives who were mere iefants when their parents sold the land ; and to induce families to pay for and settle upon land from which they are liable to be ousted in due course of law. The Undersigned intends to defer legal proceedings until the Summer Session of the Court, at which time the Native Chiefs and witnesses can most conveniently attend, to establish his title. He will then bring actions of ejectment against the said Duncan MacKenzie and MacKay, if found upon his land, and against any other person or persons who may be found trespassing thereon.
