THE GREEK INSURRECTION.
The news of the capture of Arta is confirmed. Arta (or Norda) is situate not far from the gulf of the same name, and is surrounded on three sides by the river Arta, which falls into a small bay that forms the harbour of the place. There is a large fortified Turkish castle, situated on a hill to the east, and which commands the place and the harbour ; it is a town of 8,000 inhabitants (who are cliiefly Greeks), and it is also the seat of a Greek bishop.
Despatches from Constantinople state that Omar Pasha is appointed Generalissimo of all the troops operating on the Danube, and Halim Pasha has loecn named Com mandei -in-Chief of the corps destined to operate against the Greek insurgents. Negociations relative to the future position of the Christians in Turkey have tren opened between the representatives of the Four Powers and the Porte.
