Lietenant-Geneial Sir Maurice O'Connell expired at his residence, Tajmona, on Thursday, May 25th, after a short but severe illness. IrelEnd presented but little evidences of improvement in the condition of her people, but there were some prospects of an union of the two repeal parties. There appeared in England to bej some improve* meat ia trade, and although there was still much
depression ia money mn'rers; iupolvcncies were becoming fevrer, and confidence was in some degree restored. Christian VIII., King of Denmark, died on the 19th January, and was succeeded by his son Frederick VII. The city of Pabrmo had revolted, and the royal troops had had the worst of the contest, which was a very sanguinary one. The cause of this revolt v\as the resistance of the Government to the proposed extension of popular privileges.
