The Duke of Wellington has recommended England to be prepared for a war with France. i In France, Prince Joinville has resigned the post of Admiral of the Mediterranean fleet, on account of ill health. There is no longer a Switzerland ■ — 13 cantons have dissevered from the other 7. Fribourg is fallen, Zug subdued, and Luzerne occupied. The Bank of England has reduced tb^ rate of interest to six per cent. Messrs. Fletcher, Alexander, & Co., have been assisted by £300,000 from the Bank of England. The India and China mail for November reached London, December 20th. . i A revolution has broken out in Greece ; there had i been muoh hard fighting at Patras— the (,'overnor was a prisoner in the hands of the insurgents. Parliament has been adjourned to February 3rd. The New Zealand government bill was read a second j time in the House of Commons, and was ordered to j be committed on the 4th February. It is intended, says the United Service Gazette, to keep a permanent naval force at New Zealand. It will consist of one frigate, one sloop of war, and a steam sloop. Orders have been sent out to form a naval depot at Auckland, and such stores and provisions as cannot be procured at that colony will be sent out from England.
