Auckland Correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald.

In one of tho lato numbers of the Herald wo find somo statements made under tho authority of tho above unknown personage, regarding this settlemont, which aro certainly very far from being true. If tho rest of tho foreign intelligence of tho diurnal monotony is not more accurate than that furnished by tho "Auckland Correspondent," we would advise tho readers of tho Herald to pass over its foreign intelligence, or if they do read it, to believe that the opposite of what is thero stated, is the truth. We arc sorry to bo obliged thus to speak of a paper which appears to have such a circulation as tho Herald ; but when wo find it manifestly, and purposely, travelling from the path of truth, wo must publish its character. With tho exception of advertisements, and size of paper, wo could never see any thing in tho Herald to recommend it. It has never been conducted with cither spirit or talent. A mere tool in tho hands of the penal " plutocracy," it remains a century behind every other periodical in the Colony. To expect any thing like liberality of opinion, independence of principle, and opposition to misgovernment, and oppression, in the Herald, would bo as absurd as to look for honor and honesty among tho felons of Hyde ParkBarracks or Norfolk Island. We would vonture to wager that tho Auckland Correspondent of tho Herald is some escaped convict, or at least an emancipist. From his manner of expressing himself ho has evidently the penal mark.
