Abstract of the Receipts and Expenditure on account of St. Paul's Church, Auckland, to the 9th May, 1843. £ s. d. Amount of different accounts now due to Contractors and Workmen 825 15 7 Estimate for completion of the Spire 75 0 0 In round numbers 800 0 0 the sum required to be raised, exclusive of the Architect's Commission. To meet this demand, the Trustees have only the above balance of £31 10s. lid., and the sum of £500 advanced by the Lord Bishop a-s a Loan. In submitting to the Public the above statement of their proceedings, the Trustees cannot but express their gratification at being enabled, in the space of little more than eighteen months from the laying of the foundation stone, to point ont to the Subscribers, as the result of their early and combined exertions, a building which, in its internal arrangement, is so we 11 calculated for the sacred purpose for which it is intended, and in its general character and architectural details forms not merely an ornament to the Metropolis, but will probably vie both in beauty and durability with any building likely to be erected in the colony for many years to come. In attaining this object, which has never been lost sight of, the Trustees have had many difficulties>to contend with, and have incurred a very serious amount of personal responsibility. At the present moment, a very limited portion only of the debt could have been discharged, had not the Trustees rendered to the Lcrd Bishop their personal security for the sum of £500, advanced on Loan by his Lordship ; — and the Trustees still feel, that it will be impossible fjr them, with any degree of propriety, to undertake the completion of the Spire- -at once the most striking characteristic, and the greatest ornament of the building — unless a further sum of at least Two hundred and fifty (£250) pounds be raised by private subscription. — While therefore acknowledging the strenuous exertions, which have already been made by the inhabitants of Auckland in the promotion of the work, the Trustees are" .compelled to appeal warmly and earnestly for further assistance and support, (especially from those who, from their comparatively recent arrival in the colony, have not yet contributed), both for the purpose of completing the building and paying off the debt already incurred. In ,making this appeal to the Public of Auckland, the Trustees feel confident that their exertions for the above purposes will not be Jeft unaided j especially when it is considered
