Pails Beats Bromwich In Straight Sets (Received November 25, 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 25. Dinny Pails caused the biggest tennis upset for many years when lie beat the Australian Davis Cup star, John Bromwich. 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in the final of the New South Wales singles championship yesterday. By his win Rails has virtually won a place in Australia’s Davis Cup team next y?ar. Pails played a superb all-court game. He was severe from the outset and never allowed Bromwich to settle down to his usual .steady game. Pails’ terrific service was a big factor in his win. After the match Bromwich said: No player in the world would have beaten Fails today.” Crawford commented: “Pails played marvellously. I don’t think any player anywhere could have played better.” . Other finals resulted : 'Women’s singles, .Mrs. Bolton (formerly Miss Nancy Wvnne) beat Mrs. Hopman, 6-3. 6-3; men’s doubles, Brodie and Harper defeated’Crawford and Pails, 6-3. 3-6, 6-4, 6-4; women’s doubles, Misses J. Fitch and M. Bevis defeated Mesdames Hopman and Long. 6-2. 6-3. The mixed doubles final, unfinished because of fading light, stands, Bromwich and Miss Fitch versus Long and Mrs. Bolton, 6-3. 1-6. 7-7.
