INTERCLUB ROWING REGATTA

Redding Shield Won By Wellington immediately after the formal opening of theAPetoue Rowing Club’s season oh Saturday, crews from the Petonc; Wellington and Star clubs took ■ the water for die first interclub regatta of the season, the Redding Shield fixture. Star, took the lead early, rowing, a tong stroke, while' Wellington and. Petone, who : were .content with a shorter stroke, stayed on even terms. . After . halfway Wellington settled down to a long; slower stroke, which enabled them to: leave’Petone be-, hind, and overtake Star to win by half' a length. Wellington ■ jumped away at the start and, though throwing up plenty of water, were getting speed out of tlieir boat. Welterweight Junior Fours.—Tins resulted in a dead-heat between Star and Petone. Crews were:—Star (R. Armstrong stroke, R. Allunl 2, E. Webb 3, J. Cowles bow), and Petonc (G. Calvert stroke, s. Gillan 2, W. Alexander 3, E. Burrows bow;. Wellington No. 1 were third. This was the most thrilling race, of the daj. From a good start, Stay gained a short lead, but Petone and Wellington No. 1 kept elolre. At halfway . Petonc . torged ahead, bill Star camo again over tire last few yards and crossed the line with Petone.
