Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, October 25. His Excellency the Governor-General held a public investiture in the Town Hall this evening. Her Excellency Lady Newall was present at the ceremony.

Commander Victor E. Creighton, United States Naval Reserve, has been assigned to the United States Legation in AVellington as Naval Attache and Naval Attache for Air, to replace Captain Lloyd R. Gray. Air John Harvey is to be Chief Judge of the High Court of the Cook islands and a Judge of the Native Land Court. Mr. James Alorton will have completed 35 years' service with the South British Insurance Co., Ltd., for 11 years of which be has been general manager, when he retires at the cud of December. Before joining'the Company be had extensive insurance ' und business experience iu Auckland and overseas. High praise for Mr. Morton’s ability and leadership was expressed by the chairman, Air. V. J. Larner, at the annual meeting of the company in Auckland. He made particular reference to the success with which the difficulties of the war years bad been surmounted. Air, B. I’. Mansfield, who has been superintendent of reserves at Invercargill since 1933. has been appointed director of domains at Christchurch. He* wiil succeed Air. J. A. MaePherson, who has been appointed director of gardens and parks at Auckland. Air. Mansfield, who is n graduate of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Kew, served overseas with the New Zealand Forestry Unit, and returned to New Zealand in February.

Mr. E. A. Cameron, inspector of t.ie Bank of Australasia in New Zealand, and chairman of the Associated Bunks, will retire tit the end of the year. Mt. H. D. T. Williamson, manager of the Auckland brunch of the hank, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Cameron as inspector.
