ENEMY REQUEST FOR CONFERENCE

MANILA, August 28. Japanese Imperial headquarters has asked General MacArthur for a conference before the signing of the formal surrender, so as to obtain full understanding in advance on certain points regarding the execution of the terms. It also repeated its request that the Japanese shall be allowed to provide their own currency to the American forces instead _of the Americans using their own invasion yen. Japan has informed General MacArthur that the conditions in north Korea have suddenly become worse and that the lives and uroperties of Japanese residents are exposed to imminent danger. This deplorable situation is likely to spread to south Korea, forcing the local Japanese authorities into an extremely awkward position. Accordingly, it was stated, the Japanese authorities eagerly await the early arrival of Allied forces and urgently desire that they should take into consideration the actual c, •.-litiotis before disarming the Japanese forces.
