HOUSING PROBLEM
Mention At Harbour Board Meeting
Permission to move a resolution concerning housing was sought by Mr. J. G. Johnson at the meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board last night. He said it arose out of a statement by the city missioner. Rev*. Harry Squires, in “The ■ Dominion” of June 2. concerning housing conditions and the payment by a returned soldier, his wife and two children ot £4 u week for a room. The chairman, Mr. W. H. Price, said that if it dealt with a harbour board matter it was all right, but if with housing only, he was'afraid it did not concern the board. , , Mr. Johnson said that question had not been raised when at a previous meeting a motion had been submitted to support a protest against certain actions of the Waikato miners. The chairman said that coal supplies were vital to the hoard, but housing was outside the scope of its activities. He did not wish to stifle discussion, but if they were going to open up the question of housing at the board meeting, he did not know where it would get them. Mr. Johnson said he would see that flic matter he was raising received publicity in some way or other.
