'WOMEN TEACHERS
A meeting of the Women Teachers’ Association was held in the institute clubrooms iu Wellington recently, with Miss A. Gilpin in the chair. A welcome was extended to Miss Sunderland, and good wishes offered Mrs. Holland on her marriage. It was decided to assist actively in the campaign to help the starving'people of Europe, which is being sponsored bv the National Council ot Women, and to draw up a report on the teaching of needlework in- primary schools; to make a thorough study of the summary compiled by the Federation ot Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Great Britain, of their inquiries into the status of women, presented to the Royal Commission on Equal Pay, which sat in London in February, 1945. A report on the May conference ot the N.Z.W.T.A. was given, after which supper, kindly supulied by Misses Rowe, Roughton and Lueder, was served.
Victoria League Shop Day. Proceeds from the shop day to be held tomorrow' at the Victoria League room in ■Wellington will help tlw league’s London hospitality centre for servicemen. Articles will be on sale from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. Parcels From Paraparaumu. Acknowledgment of parcels sent overseas to soldiers bv the Paraparaumu Women’s Institute was read at a recent Paraparaumu Institute meeting. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mr. C. G. Weston. Mrs. Cameron discussed bqr birthplace, the historic city of Edinburgh. Members were reminded of the “white elephant” stall to be assembled next month in aid of libraryfunds.
