Military Defaulters
Sir, —’“Just a Poor Soldier’s Wife, Lower Hutt, states her case in a creditable and unusual manner, and points out exactly the state of affairs in New Zealand regarding military defaulters. Perhaps the authorities have overlooked the fact that New Zealand has prisoners, of war in Japan whose lives are being weighed in the scales of death every hour of the day, yet they have the nerve to try to tell the public that these defaulters have had enough “punishment. They should tell that to the relations ot boys who have been prisoners of war with the Japanese for four, years or so, and see what they think of it. Surely the people of New Zealand are not going to stand by and let these military defaulters be released?. A courtmartial is allowed to be published some airmen court-martialled for some crazy flying, after three years overseas—but not so the cases of military defaulters. I am, etc., RELATION OF P.O AV. Wellington, June 22.
