For several days in succession the Wanganui district has experienced strong southerly winds and low temperatures, with snow in the back country. Heavy seas were running on the coast last night, but moderated sufficiently to permit shipping to work the port on this morning's- tide. The wind later freshened from the south again, ami as a result tlie small coastal motor-ship Koutunui. which sailed at 10 a.m. today for Wellington with dairy produce, was compelled to put back to Castleclifl because of the stress of weather. There is a considerable swell on the bar this evening. The barometric pressure is comparatively high, the reading at .<> p.m. being 30.45 in.. but pressure is again f a 11 in g.
