YOUTH SENT TO JAIL
Following his arrest on being found in the military quarters at the winter show grounds, Wellington, Arthur Noel Heap, labourer, aged 19, was charged in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, with being an idle and disorderly person in that he had insuHieient lawful means of support. Accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Prosecuting, De tec five-Sergeant Compton said accused was only recently released Irom Borstal, and had been instructed io report to the manpower authorities in Hastings. He arrived in Wellington on May 1 en route from the Borstal In the South Island and had remained in the city. He was found in the winter show grounds by a military picket. He alleged he was a sub-lieutenant in the navy and that he had been told to proceed to the military quarters there to obtain a bed for the night. Mr. Stout. S.M.: Why did you not take advantage of the leniency shown you? Accused: There is trouble at home, sir.
