HASTINGS HORSES FOR ELLERSLIE
Dominion Special Service.
HASTINGS. May 23. Kilmanagh, Takrouna and Capronella are leaving tonight for Ellerslie. Trainer T. S. Greene lias Takrouna in great order. Though she lias not raced since winning easily at Fellding nt Easter, she is in firstclass race condition, and if started In the Great Northern Hurdles may be a dangerous lightweight. She was' to have been ridden by A. Jenkins, but as he broke a collarbone at To Rapa on Saturday L. C. Brown is now fulfilling Jenkins’s riding engagements. Capronella was second in the Hawke’s Bay Cup two weeks after she had won impressively in record time at Fellding. This mare is in great heart and is not without a ehunce in the Cornwall Handicap. She will be ridden by I'. Atkins. This morning Kilmanagh gave a very pleasing exhibition over six flights of hurdles aud gained friends for her Hunt Cup Hurdles engagement at Ellerslie. She is very lit and, like the majority of the Siegfrieds, she can stay, and is at home in heavy going. Koi Itagi had his first run along this morning since being taken over by. C. Naylor. He ran hair a mile in 50 on the No. 2 grass, which is a little short of the correct distance.
Bunsby, who has greatly disappointed in his last two starts, was handling the going impressively when recording 1.33$ for seven furlongs. The Wanganui Steeplechase candidate Master Meruit looks in capital order, having done well since Hawera. He came home hard-held over the last three furlongs in 42 alongside Golden Memory, who is now in W. D. Young’s team.
