Sheep Mortality High

SYDNEY, May 23.

Sheen losses from the recent drought now exceed 6,000,000. says Dr H. J. Hynes, of the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture. He adds that when tlie losses from causes other than drought anil from poor lambing are tallied the total will be staggering. In the south-western district of New South Wales feed had almost disappeared, he said, and surface water supplies were nearing exhaustion. This area carried more than 20.000.000 sheep—almost half the total for New South Wales—and more than 400,000 head of cattle.
