Neville Chamberlain
Sir, —'Surely there was no reason for “Devon” of Palmerston North to be.abusive. After describing me as “ill-in-formed” and “vindictive, unjust and incorrect,” he asserts that “obviously” I am a “reader of Socialist-Communist literature.” In what way does anything I have written make that obvious? In any ease, it is a cheap jibe that has no bearing whatever on the matter under discussion. There is no need to follow “Devon, “Credit Where Due” and “T.L.” in their wordy meanderings along by-days and up blind alleys. I commend to their attention the letter of “A.M.” headed “British People and Policy,” in vour issue of Tuesday. For myself, I stand to the reply I made to the first letter of “Credit Where Due.” which started this discussion. The British people owe little gratitude to Mr. Chamberlain for 1937-39. They have paid for attempted appeasement in “blood, toil, tears and sweat.” —I am, etc., S.D.W. Wellington, May 23.
