AUSTRALIAN ARMY’S TASK
(Received October 20. 11.55 p.m.l CANBERRA, October 20. “In the near future Australian soldiers will be engaged in battles as important as if not more important than any in which they have taken part.’’ said the Minister of the Army. Mr. Forde, in a broadcast tonight. “For some lime the Australian Army has been resting and reorganizing, but Ibis is only a pull. .Before long they will be engaged bi arduous battles. “A great offensive is being mounted against Japan in the Pacific. and Australia is being used as a springboard. Further substantial forces will arrive in this theatre in the near future, not only from tlio United States but also from Britain. “'Phe war against Japan will last a long time: there is every indication that the Japanese will fight doggedly to the end.”
