Hopes Of New Member (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Special Correspondent.) .LONDON, October 19. The election to the House of Commons of Sir "William Beveridge, author of the famous report ou social security, has given satisfaction to his admirers. Sir William Beveridge, who before the election said he would support Mr. Churchill and the Coalition Government, refused letters o.f endorsement from Mr. Churchill and Mr. Attlee iu his election fight. He said he did not want a “rubber stamp” from Mr. Churchill in Moscow, and that he felt confident of Labour votes for his social security policy without Mr. Attlee’s recommendation. He also said before the poll that he would work for a revival of Liberalism, Which he feds is coming. Many Liberals believe that the Beveridge Plan provides lhe Liberal Party with its best opportunity in many years to stage a revival. It is believed that as soon as party politics return Sir William Beveridge will oppose the Government, as he is a believer in healthy opposition.
