CESENA CAPTURED

Eighth Army Success LONDON, October 20. Eighth Army troops have occupied the town of Cesena, 17 miles inland from the Adriatic coast on the highway to Bologna. The Germans had covered every approach to the town, but dive-bombers and our preliminary bombardment neutralized their main defences and our infantry were soon breaking through the outskirts of the town. Indian troops of the Eighth Army are pushing on toward the Savia River, while inland British Fifth Army forces have captured several hill features on the drive toward Bologna. In the low ground east of ' Cesena Eighth Army troops forced a bridgehead over the Pisciatello River against strong opposition, states yesterday’s Allied communique. The bridgehead, which is small, is north of the railway. New Zealanders on the right flank cleaned up Ruffio, just short of the river.
