BODY TAKEN FROM HARBOUR
Inquest Into Death Of Baby 'l'he inquest into the death of the female baby whose body was recovered from Wellington Harbour late on Wednesday night was opened yesterday afternoon by the city Corouer, Mr. W. G. Mellish. Detective." William C. Harper said that on 'Wednesday he had accompanied Detective Hogan to Oriental Parade to search for the body of a baby which had been thrown into the sea. “I observed the body of a baby floating in the water about 10 yards from the end of Te Aro Baths,” said witness. “Detective Hogan and I made attempts to recover it, but because of the rough water it was impossible to secure it from the shore. I went into the water and recovered the body, which I handed over to Detective Hogan.” Witness said he was present when the body was placed in the city morgue. It was that of a female child, well-nourished, which had every appearance of being a full-lime baby. It was approximately 11.15 p.m. when Ihe body was recovered. "1. will now declare that 1. find the Ihml.v was (hat of tfic female child of Nita Constance Batt, which child was ini-named, and I will now adjourn the further bearing of this inquest pending completion of proceedings which haie been taken,” said the coroner.
