German Abandonment Of Town ’ (Received October 20, 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 19. , The German news agency reports that the Russians on the East Prussian front have thrown in strong, fresh tank formations. and infantry divisions, and the fierceness of the. battle has increased. The Germans in the course ot extremely hard fighting evacuated Eydtkau. which is about a mile inside the Bast Prussian frontier. Moscow radio announced that the Russian Air Force is now operating from aerodromes in south-western 1 inland. Forces of the Russian army that broke across the Carpathians into eastern Slovakia from the north and north-east have now linked up with Marshal Malinovsky s army ou the southern side near the Transylvanian border, says a message from Moscow. 1 The text of Marshal Stalin s order or the day was: “After forcing seven Carpathian passes, including Lupkow, Uzok. Vereckv and Jablomca, troops ot the Fourth Ukrainian Front advanced into Czechoslovak territory to a depth of 12 to 30 miles on a 170-mile front, capturing many localities, including leresva, Jasina and Rahov.”
