THE NEW PROBLEM FIGURE The mature figure has always been consldere'd the corsetiere’s “diflicult” figure. Today, with the shortage of elastic, it is the slender figure whose problem is besetting the eorsetry world. Mature figures find little difference in their wartime foundations, for elastic has never played a mnjor part in their figure control. Their Berleis may be less beautiful to the eye (for nonessentials in manufacture are prohibited, to allow the factory to turn out clothing for the forces, too), but flexibility and fit are practically unimpaired. The slender, accustomed to elastic foundations varying in lightness or firmness from elastic net to skintex, find the difference disconcerting. To conserve rubber, industrial legislation restricts the use of elastic to so many inches per corset. Berlei redesigned their foundations to cope with Ibis change, increasing panel-shaping for compensation., This renders indispensable now the preliminary tryon in the store. The slender, who have habitually bought their corsets across the counter will have to give up this haphazard method if they want the maximum comfort and lit. Berlei have also stressed this; now they would like to shout it from the house-tops, so urgent has it become under present; conditions. Berlei fittings have always been highly individual—it is their special virtue that, they cater for every subtle variation of figure-type—nn'd today they are more so. Only through a fitting can the salesgirl select the perfect type of Berlei made for the customer. And if, as may happen in the present scarcity, that garment is not in stock, it is folly indeed, today, to let oneself be persuaded into taking the next. best. Waiting is exasperating; but wearing the wrong lining foundation can be even more exasperating, in the. absence of elastic to ease out the discrepancies.—Advt.
