AUSTRALIAN WOOL
Purchase Agreement Extended SYDNEY, October 17. The British Government has agreed to extend the wool purchase agreement with Australia till one wool year after the war ends. This has been revealed by the Minister of Commerce, Mr. Scully. It was difficult to understand why such an important announcement was not made by the Prime Minister, commented the chairman of the Australian Woolgrowers Council, Mr. H. R. Cowdery. Specially was this so in view of the fact that the extension of the contracts to the end of the Pacific war instead of the end of the European struggle was said to have been arranged by Mr. Curtin during bis visit to England. The altered arrangement might, prove of great importance in the event, of Japan holding out against the United Nations for any length of time after Germany was beaten. Mr. Cowdery added that Australian wool growers were grateful to the British Government for its action.
