BULL CHARGES TRAIN

Carriage On Express Partly Derailed

Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, October 17. Charged by. a bull at the Austin Hoad railway crossing, north of Normanby, shortly before 10 o’clock this morning, a carriage on the New Plymouth-Welling-ton express was partly derailed. The bull, which was straying uear the railway, jumped the cattle-stops as the train passed and charged the second carriage. The animal was killed outright but was caught between the first two cars, derailing the leading bogie of the second. No one was injured aud the train was uot damaged. The derailed carriage was detached at Normanby and the express reached Hawera nearly two hours late.

A special train running on the schedule of the express was run from Wanganui to Wellington. The express reached Wellington at 7.53 p.m.
