DUNKIRK EPIC
Civilians Tell Of Bravery AFTER FOUR YEARS (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received. October 10, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, October 10. There was no white flag at Dunkirk in May, 1940. British soldiers who did not escape by evacuation fought to the last bullet, standing chest-high iu the sea, tiring at the Germans as the enemy came down, the beaches. . The stranded men’s valiant behaviour can be revealed only four, years later, now that the civilians are evacuated from Dunkirk. Two French railway workers told a British United Press correspondent a stirring story. “The British troops after the last boat had gone never surrendered tber weapons and never gave in,” be says. “German Stukas dive-bombed isolated groups, who took what shelter was available. They were calm and fearless all the time. . , . “The last fight raged tn the casino area. The British drove lorries aud cars to the beach and used them as barricades from which to fire at the Germans in the casino.”
