IMPRESSMENT OF TEACHERS
All single teachers under the age of 30 years are liable to be impressed for work of national importance during a portion of-the Christmas vacation. Information to this effect was received by the president and the secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute when they attended a conference called by the Director of National Service. The most urgent need will he for wonien workers in hospitals and it is to this type of work that the majority will be directed. No teacher, training .college student or university student will, however, be compulsorily retained at work, in a hospital for a longer period than one month. The National Service Department is also desirous of securing the services of teachers outside the age group mentioned and these are asked to volunteer for work of an essential nature, particularly iu hospitals. Even those teachers in the impressed group can select their own type of employment, subject, of course, to it being of an essential nature, but such as do not make their own arrangements are liable to be manpowcred.
